Bout of Books Wrap-Up

Bout of Books Wrap-Up header

Before I get into this post… How do you like my new design? 😀 I got the urge yesterday to redo my blog’s design and I have to say, I’m really liking the new one. There are still a couple of things I’m not 100% happy with that I may end up changing, but overall, I really like how it turned out. (As a side note: there are a couple of posts coming up in the next few weeks that I already had scheduled and made graphics for and I’m too lazy to redo those, so… they won’t match the new design, but oh well, haha.)

The Bout of Books readathon that I’ve been participating in for the past week ended last night and that means that it’s time for me to post my wrap-up! This was my second time participating in this readathon and I had just as much fun this time around. I definitely recommend trying this readathon at least once (if readathons are your thing). 🙂

Bout of Books Sign-Up and TBR (and Daily Progress)

Bout of Books Sign-Up, TBR, and Daily Progress Post

I decided pretty last minute that I wanted to participate in this round of Bout of Books. I’ve participated in this readathon before and had a lot of fun, even though I don’t think I met all my goals. Regardless, I’ve been wanting to participate again and since I’m still on winter break, this seemed like a good time to join in. 🙂

For those of you who don’t know, here’s the official blurb explaining what Bout of Books is:

There’s still time to sign up if you’d like! I’m not sure if I’ll be participating in any challenges or anything, but I might. I’m just going to see how the week goes. My goal is to finish at least 2 books, preferably 3. I should have quite a bit of time to get some reading done this week, so hopefully I’m able to meet my goals!

Bout of Books 17 Wrap-Up

bout of books wrap-up blog graphic

As you probably know, this past week I was participating in Bout of Books. It’s a week-long readathon where you basically set your own goals but can also participate in challenges that are put on by the hosts. This was my second time participating in Bout of Books, but for the first time I also participated in a challenge!

Day 1’s challenge was to post about your most and least favorite book-to-movie adaptations. If you missed that post, it is right here. I gave pretty cliche answers, to be honest.

Now on to the wrap-up of the actual reading I got done. Or more accurately, didn’t get done.

Guys. The past two weeks have had me in the worst reading slump. It took me EIGHT days to read a 250 page book. And then without realizing it, I made a horrible decision and started reading a 550 page book. So. That’s where I’m at.

My goal was to finish reading 3 books during the week. I technically didn’t even finish one. I finished Ash by Malinda Lo, but I had gotten through about half of that before Bout of Books started. So I counted that as half of a book being finished. And as of the time I’m writing this (Sunday morning), I’m only about a third of the way through the book I picked up after that, The Forgotten: Aten’s Last Queen by J. Lynn Else. So there’s no way that’s getting finished before Bout of Books ends. If you’re interested in actual page counts of my daily reading, I’ve been updating my sign-up post with daily reading progress.

In terms of reading, I really didn’t do nearly as well as I was hoping for. But I don’t really mind. I still had a lot of fun and I’m glad I participated, even if its intended purpose didn’t really work out for me. The reading slump took over and Bout of Books couldn’t fight it off. I still look forward to taking part in the next one!

Bout of Books: Book to Movie Adaptation Challenge

bob books to movie adaptation blog graphic

I’m going to try not to spam you guys with posts this week so I won’t be participating in a lot of Bout of Books challenges since I have other posts that I want to put up this week and like I said, I don’t want to be spamming you guys with posts.

BUT I liked the topic for this challenge and couldn’t resist. 🙂 Here’s the original post  for this challenge on Writing My Own Fairy Tale.

BEST BOOK-TO-MOVIE ADAPTATION

This is such an easy answer: The Hunger Games. I felt like this is a rare instance where the movies actually got better as the series went on, but even the first movie was really good and did a pretty good job of sticking to the book. From Catching Fire on, it was pretty much a spot-on adaptation. So these movies definitely get the award for the best book to movie adaptation.

WORST BOOK-TO-MOVIE ADAPTATION

Why do I have the feeling I won’t be the only person giving this answer? I have to go with the Divergent series. More specifically, Insurgent. I liked the Divergent movie just fine. It changed some things, but I felt overall it was the same story and I still enjoyed it. My biggest complaint with that movie was that Christina felt so unimportant but throughout the whole book series, I loved her and felt she was quite a prominent character. But then came the Insurgent movie. When I first saw it, I didn’t mind it. I was disappointed but thought it was still okay. As time goes on, though, I hate that movie more and more. And I can’t even say anything about the Allegiant movie because I didn’t  go see it. I realized that Insurgent wasn’t that good and then I heard everyone’s complaints about the Allegiant movie so I just didn’t bother.

What are your most and least favorite book-to-movie adaptations?

Bout of Books 17 Sign Up

bout of books 17 sign up blog graphic

After some deliberation, I’ve decided that I’m going to be participating in Bout of Books 17! I participated in the last one back in May and had a lot of fun doing it. This one starts on Monday and goes through next Sunday. I’m hoping it will be just as fun as the last one and that it will motivate me to get some books read. 🙂

For those of you who don’t know, Bout of Books is a week-long readathon that’s pretty low pressure. You can set your own goals and while there are challenges that go on throughout the week, you’re not required to participate in them. Here’s the official blurb from the website:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 22nd and runs through Sunday, August 28th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 17 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I’m going to go with the same goal that I set for myself last time: to read 3 books. I usually read 1-2 books a week, so 3 is pushing myself just enough that I am actually pushing myself, yet it’s not too stressful or unattainable.

Last time I didn’t participate in any challenges and to be honest, I’m not sure if I will this time either, but I might. I guess I’ll wait and see how I’m doing when it comes around. 😛

As for a TBR… I’m not really sure what I’ll be in the mood to read but I’ll give myself a few options here:

I may end up going completely off my TBR (which would be no surprise, honestly), but as of right now those are some of the books I’m thinking of reading.

Anyway, I’m really excited to be participating in this again and can’t wait to get some reading done!
