It Started With Goodbye Holiday Gift Ideas | Debut Authors Bash (+ Giveaway!)

2017 Debut Authors Bash Banner

Good morning, everyone! I am so excited about today’s post. As part of the Debut Authors Bash being hosted by YA Reads, Christina June and I came up with a really fun post about holiday gifts we would buy based on her debut, It Started With Goodbye. We both had so much fun coming up with ideas for gifts to include. I hope you have just as much fun taking a look at them! But enough of my rambling – let’s get into the gift ideas!

There’s also a giveaway for Christina’s second book, Everywhere You Want to Be, which focuses on one of the secondary characters from her debut, so be sure to scroll all the way through and enter. 🙂

Things Aren’t Always #000000 and #FFFFFF Shirt

This gift is inspired by the main character, Tatum, who is not only a graphic designer but learns to see things (and people) in a different way over the course of the novel.

Angel Wing Earrings and Necklace

As you’ll know if you’ve read the book, angel wings are kind of a recurring symbol.

Mug with Different Fonts

Another graphic design-inspired gift, this would be perfect when someone is looking for inspiration for the perfect font to use!

“I’m Very Font of You Because You’re Just My Type” Pillow

Again, a gift perfect for a graphic designer that I think completely sums up the sense of humor that SK has. I can totally see him giving this to Tatum.

Sarah Jarosz Debut Album

Chaconne Sheet Music Arranged by Tanya Anisimova

The sheet music and the two albums above are included as they’re some of SK’s favorite musicians. (As a side note, I really need to listen to these artists!)

Magritte Phone Case

Magritte’s “The Blank Signature” is hanging in Tatum’s room, so of course, it makes sense to have a matching phone case.

Marshmallow Roasting Set

This marshmallow roasting set is a reference to one of the last few scenes in the book. Trust me, it’s cute. 🙂

Keep Calm and Play Cello Shirt

Another gift inspired by our resident musician, SK. Perfect for the cellist in your life.

Aren’t these all such lovely gifts?!  There are quite a few here that I wouldn’t mind receiving myself!!

After being falsely accused of a crime, she’s stuck under stepmother-imposed house arrest and her BFF’s gone ghost. When Tatum discovers she’s not the only one in the house keeping secrets, she finds she has the chance to make amends with her family and friends. Equipped with a new perspective, and assisted by her feisty step-abuela-slash-fairy-godmother, Tatum is ready to start fresh and maybe even get her happy ending along the way.

About Everywhere You Want to Be

Everywhere You Want to Be by Christina JuneFrom author Christina June comes Everywhere You Want to Be, a modern tale inspired by the classic Red Riding Hood.

Matilda Castillo has always done what she was told, but when she gets injured senior years, she watches her dreams of becoming a contemporary dancer slip away. So when Tilly gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend the summer with a New York dance troupe, nothing can stop her from saying yes–not her mother, not her fears of the big city, and not the commitment she made to Georgetown. Tilly’s mother allows her to go on two conditions: one, Tilly will regularly visit her abuela in New Jersey, and two, after the summer, she’ll give up dancing and go off to college.

Armed with her red vintage sunglasses and her pros and cons lists, Tilly strikes out, determined to turn a summer job into a career. Along the way she meets new friends … and new enemies. Tilly isn’t the only one desperate to dance, and fellow troupe member Sabrina Wolfrik intends to succeed at any cost. But despite dodging sabotage and blackmail attempts from Sabrina, Tilly can’t help but fall in love with the city, especially since Paolo, a handsome musician from her past, is also calling New York home for the summer.

As the weeks wind down and the competition with Sabrina heats up, Tilly’s future is on the line. She must decide whether to follow her mother’s path to Georgetown or leap into the unknown to pursue her own dreams.
