Countdown to Christmas Week 5

Because it’s my favorite holiday, I decided I wanted to do something to help celebrate Christmas here on my blog. So every Sunday until (and including) Christmas, I will be highlighting a book that’s Christmas-related and on my TBR! If any of you have read the book, feel free to share your thoughts (but no spoilers, please!).

Be sure to also check out week 1week 2week 3, and week 4.

This week’s pick is Matchsticks and Candy Canes by C.E. Wilson and Mary Dublin.

In a society where elves are no longer creatures of myth and magic, Brynne Mirren is just trying to survive the holidays as one of Santa’s Rejects. Loyal to her duty as the eldest child, she stands outside in the freezing cold and sells matchbooks—not that anyone would buy anything from an elf. Each fruitless day is the same without exception until her path crosses with Carter Holly. Persistent though he is, she can’t help but wonder if he has an ulterior motive.

After all, very few humans look kindly on elves these days.

Days before Christmas, Brynne’s life takes a drastic turn and she is forced to trust the gentle stranger in the darkest time of her life. Carter Holly continues to surprise her, stirring up new feelings within her with every act of kindness.

Though the threat of freezing along with her matchbooks is very real, Brynne can’t forget that falling in love with a human is even more dangerous.

I’ve read several of C.E. Wilson’s books and really enjoyed them. So when I found out that she was writing a Christmas-themed book, I immediately added it to my TBR. I wish I hadn’t had so many books to read the past few weeks, otherwise, I totally would’ve signed up to get a review copy! This doesn’t come out until Friday (December 9th), but it seems like such an interest blend of Christmas, dystopian, and romance and I can’t wait until I get around to reading it (whenever that may be…).

Is this something you’d read? What are some Christmas-themed books you have read or want to read?
