Musing Mondays (5/9)

Hello everyone – I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I know I did! I got to move out of my dorm on Friday and come home for the summer which is always something I look forward to. Plus I had a lot of fun yesterday with my mom/family for Mother’s Day. 🙂

Anyway, it’s time for this week’s Musing Mondays post.

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme hosted by Books and a Beat where you answer one of the following prompts in addition to the weekly question:

  • I’m currently reading…
  • Up next I think I’ll read…
  • I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
  • I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I can’t wait to get a copy of…
  • I wish I could read ___, but…
  • I blogged about ____ this past week…

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: What is the best book you read LAST year?

I’m super excited to tell you about Veronica Roth’s new book! I’m sure a lot of you have heard about this already, especially if you’re on Twitter, but I’m so excited. I’m a huge fan of the Divergent series (yes, even Allegiant), so I was thrilled to hear that Veronica Roth is starting a new series.

The book is called Carve The Mark and is going to be released in January 2017. I’m already sick of waiting for it!!

Here’s the blurb:

Fans of Star Wars and Divergent will revel in internationally bestselling author Veronica Roth’s stunning new science-fiction fantasy series.

On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favored by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape the future. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not—their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?

Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power—something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.

Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuvhe, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive—no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive—or to destroy one another.

As you probably know, I looove sci-fi and fantasy so this is definitely something I think I will enjoy.

I’m in love with this cover. It’s simple but it looks great.

What was the best book you read last year?

Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys! It didn’t come out last year, but that’s when I read it. It’s definitely one of my all-time favorites and I finally put Salt to the Sea on hold at the library, so I should be able to read that soon too. I’m so excited! 🙂
